MY POLICY:
I do not want to run up huge legal bills at your expense. I will try to help you prevent marital disputes before they happen, or to resolve them amicably and fairly once they occur.
I cannot act for or advise both you and your spouse. I will advise you and give you good counsel, but your spouse must be independently represented by another lawyer.
PREMARITAL ADVICE AND MATRIMONIAL AGREEMENTS:
It is best to consult with me before you enter cohabitation or marriage. I will explain to you how the Family Law Act and related statutes work, advise you how best to protect yourself, and discuss with you the advisability of an appropriate domestic contract.
WHEN MARITAL PROBLEMS ARE ANTICIPATED OR OCCUR:
When you foresee marital difficulties, it is in your best interest to consult me immediately so that you will know your rights and how best to proceed. You should also see me forthwith when marital disputes occur.
PERSONAL SERVICE AND EXCELLENT ADVICE:
I emphasize again that I do not want to run up a huge bill at your expense. Wherever possible, family law matters should be dealt with humanely, expeditiously and at reasonable cost. I pride myself on giving my clients realistic assessments of their cases and excellent advice.
When both parties are reasonable, matrimonial matters can be settled fairly and expeditiously by way of a separation agreement and the divorce can be proceeded with on an uncontested basis.
In many circumstances, collaborative family law or mediation and/or arbitration can assist in resolving matrimonial issues.
Unfortunately, when one party is unreasonable, vindictive, or suffers from a mental illness, the other party can be drawn into an emotionally and financially draining legal battle. It is important that you be properly advised and represented in order to resolve your matter at the earliest possible moment and to minimize emotional and financial cost.
I am not interested in acting for parties who are unreasonable, vindictive, suffer from untreated mental illness, or who want to make children pawns in a matrimonial action. I expect my clients to act reasonably and responsibly and to accept my advice.
